Pittsburgh Steelers lose hard-hitting linebacker for the season

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Devin Harper was waived/injured on Monday, and he has now reverted to injured reserve, according to the NFL transaction wire.

It is unknown what injury Harper suffered, but the Steelers could release him from injured reserve with an injury settlement, but if he does not, Harper would be out for the season.

If he is removed from injured reserve, Harper is free to sign with any other team. He can also return to the Steelers after a certain amount of time.

Harper, a former Oklahoma State star, was on Pittsburgh’s practice squad last offseason but did not appear in a game. Prior to signing with the Steelers, Harper spent time with the Cincinnati Bengals and Dallas Cowboys.

He has appeared in nine games in his NFL career, making five tackles. Harper had a pair of tackles this preseason for the Steelers.

Harper had fallen behind rookie Carson Bruener and veteran Mark Robinson in the competition for a roster spot at inside linebacker. That alone likely spelled his doom, but an injury does not help things for the veteran.

In addition to Harper hitting injured reserve, the wire also says that wide receiver Gabe Davis has completed his visit with the Steelers, but it is believed he is now heading to the Bills for a visit tomorrow.
