This summer, Chelsea have had one of their most productive transfer windows in a while. The club have assembled a really strong squad as they look to challenge for multiple trophies this season, with the Champions League up for grabs as well. However, the window isn’t over for the Blues yet, and they are still looking to add two more names to their squad before the September 1st deadline. They are Xavi Simons and Alejandro Garnacho.
Both of these deals are stuck due to Chelsea’s failure to find new homes for players like Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, Renato Veiga and Axel Disasi, among others. Fans are growing worried with each passing day, as less than two weeks remain before the transfer window closes.
As Chelsea kicked off their Premier League season against Crystal Palace, each of the above-mentioned players was missing from the Blues squad. Additionally, Garnacho didn’t feature in Manchester United’s matchup against Arsenal as well.
Meanwhile, the Bundesliga is set to start soon, and with Simons still a RB Leipzig player, fans are left wondering if he would face a similar situation like Garnacho due to his links with Chelsea. His current team are set to take on Bayern Munich for their league opener.
Xavi Simons expected to start for RB Leipzig against Bayern Munich
Florian Plettenberg posted that unless something unexpected happens, the current plan for Simons is to start for RB Leipzig against Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga opener on Friday. After that, the move to Chelsea is set to be completed. The chances of the transfer remain very high as the player only wants the Blues. The personal terms are 100% agreed, and his team are still waiting for an official offer from the World Champions.
Fans would be happy to hear that, despite things dragging on, Simons is fully committed to a move to Stamford Bridge. While that’s encouraging, Chelsea can’t afford to delay things any longer and must soon find solutions for the players who are not in Enzo Maresca’s plans for the future.
Apart from Simons and Garnacho, Chelsea may also look to bring in a new centre-back following the recent injury to Levi Colwill. If the Blues can pull off these final few moves, they’ll have a squad capable of challenging both domestically and in Europe. Of course, it is not a foregone conclusion that they will be able to.
