The Indianapolis Colts held a quarterback competition between Daniel Jones and Anthony Richardson this offseason. On Tuesday, head coach Shane Steichen announced his final decision on who would be leading the team this season.
“A QB decision in Indy: Colts named Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback for their Sept. 7 regular-season opener vs. the Miami Dolphins,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Schefter went on to report that the Colts are sticking with Jones for the entirety of the season.
“Colts HC Shane Steichen is not planning for this to be a short-term arrangement for Daniel Jones. ‘He’s the starting QB for the season, Steichen told reporters today. ‘I don’t want to have a short leash on that.’”
Now, Richardson is responding to things via his agent.
“Anthony Richardson’s agent on QB’s relationship with Colts, via (Stephen Holder): ‘Trust is a big factor, and that is, at best, questionable right now. Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp.'”
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Couldn’t beat out Daniel Jones. put your head down and get back to work man Jesus,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“The fact that his agent, Deiric Jackson, gave an interview to ESPN is enough for Richardson to fire him. Bryce Young: Benched – kept his head down, went to work, was ready and improved when he got his turn again thanks to a Dalton car accident. Richardson needs to do the same,” one fan added.
“Slap in the face to start Jones over him who literally got cut last season. FO admitting defeat on Richardson,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Richardson gets another opportunity.
