The San Francisco 49ers are desperate to get back to the playoffs this season after missing out last year, just one season removed from a Super Bowl appearance. The Niners’ failures a season ago are thanks in no small part to injuries to star running back Christian McCaffrey, who was coming of an Offensive Player of the Year-winning season.
McCaffrey was only able to play in four games last year after dealing with Achilles tendinitis to open the year and suffering a knee injury in one of his four appearances, resulting in a lost season for the running.
Unfortunately, the Niners have just gotten more brutal injury news on the running back injury front, according to one prominent league insider.
“49ers RB Patrick Taylor Jr. will miss the entire 2025 NFL season with a shoulder injury that will require surgery,” reported Ari Meirov on Tuesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Am I just biased because I follow the team or are they actually the most cursed team of all time? What is going on with the strength and conditioning program?” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“49ers can’t catch a break at RB (would) be a huge irony if mccaffrey is the only one to stay injury free,” another fan added.
“Feel so bad for him. Kid can’t catch a break. Great guy and a good player. Heal well Patrick,” one fan added.
Hopefully, the Niners can keep a cleaner bill of health moving forward.
