'It's disgusting and shouldn't be in the game': Scott on abuse of friend Semenyo

ALEX Scott said it’s important players who experience racist abuse are supported by players, clubs and fans after friend Antoine Semenyo reported receiving abuse at Liverpool on Friday night.

The Englishman was on the pitch when the Ghanaian reported the incident to referee Anthony Taylor, with the official halting the game to speak to both managers on the touchline.

While the game was resumed, the fan was later arrested by Merseyside Police. He has since been released on bail.

One condition of his bail states he cannot attend any regulated football match in the UK, and is not allowed within a mile of any football stadium, the force said.

Scott and Semenyo are good friends having played together at both Bristol City and the [Cherries](http://www.bournemouthecho.co.uk/sport/cherries/clubnews/) – and the winger went on to score twice to haul Bournemouth back onto level terms with Liverpool, before they eventually lost 4-2.

Describing what happened from his perspective, Scott said: “Yeah, we weren’t sure and I think they had a corner and Ant spoke to the ref and obviously I asked Ant what's going on and stuff and he let us know.

“Our players were pretty quick to get around him and make sure he was okay and to be fair also with the Liverpool players.”

“It's something that's disgusting and it shouldn't be in the game, it shouldn't be in this world at all and something that we've got to continue to fight.

“Especially for these guys because they have to deal with it every single day whether that's on the pitch or on social media and it's horrible for them and being close to some of them and knowing how it can affect them.

“So it's important for us as a club and everyone involved to get around these players to get around the lads and make sure they're okay and offer them our full support.”
