Report: Seahawks to host free agent OL on visit

Free agent guard Dalton Risner is scheduled to visit the Seattle Seahawks, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported on social media Tuesday.

Risner, a seventh-year pro, spent the past two seasons with the Minnesota Vikings, starting 19 of his 25 games played. The 30 year old ranked 42nd out of 136 guards in Pro Football Focus grading last season.

Fowler reported that Risner wants to take multiple visits before deciding where to sign. He worked out for the Cincinnati Bengals on Tuesday and is considering meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A second-round pick by Denver in 2019, Risner spent his first four years with the Broncos and has been a starter in all six of his pro seasons. He has experience playing both sides of the line.

Risner missed no more than two games in each of his first five NFL seasons, but he began last season on injured reserve with a back injury. He made his return in Week 9 and played in the final 10 games of the season, including starting the final eight.

The Vikings moved on from the veteran guard after signing sought-after free agent guard Will Fries and spending a first-round pick on guard Donovan Jackson from national champion Ohio State this offseason.

Risner played with new Seahawks starting quarterback Sam Darnold in Minnesota last season and with backup quarterback Drew Lock during his time in Denver. Risner would figure to challenge for the starting job at right guard in Seattle, where the Seahawks have an ongoing battle between third-year pro Anthony Bradford and second-year pro Christian Haynes.

Bradford appears to have emerged as the favorite to win the competition with strong showings in Seattle’s first two preseason games, but the LSU product has a track record of struggles in his brief time at the NFL level, finishing no better than 100th in PFF grading in his first two seasons.
