The future of Alexander Isak took yet another dramatic twist - on Tuesday evening - after the Newcastle United striker dropped a bombshell statement on social media.

Isak, 25, is desperate to leave Newcastle and sign for Premier League champions Liverpool before the end of the window. Indeed, the Sweden international is adamant he's played his final game for the Magpies.

He didn't feature in Newcastle's Premier League curtain-raiser against Aston Villa and released a blunt message regarding his future on Tuesday night - after he was named on the PFA Team of the Year. Isak claimed "promises have been broken" and therefore "the relationship can't continue."

Elsewhere, Newcastle continue to be linked with a move for Yoana Wissa, who is pushing to leave Brentford, as well. Like Isak, the DR Congo international wasn't involved during the first week of Premier League matches after expressing his desire to leave the Gtech Community Stadium and make the move up north to Tyneside.

With this in mind, ChronicleLive has taken a look at the latest transfer news involving Newcastle;

Isak stance

Newcastle United continue to insist that, despite Alexander Isak's strong statement on Instagram, their striker is not for sale, according to The Telegraph. The Magpies are not going to be 'bullied' or 'back down', either.

The Magpies have insisted since the start of the window that they want to keep Isak at St James' Park and value him at £150m - a fee that would make him the third-most expensive player of all-time.

ChronicleLive says: There is no surprise that Newcastle want to keep hold of Isak. Yes, their striker is showing no desire of wanting to play for the club again, but if the Magpies can get him back on side and available for selection then they have a world-class centre forward on their books.

It would be a statement of intent, if Newcastle can turn Isak's head and convince him to stick put. Should the Magpies do that then I wouldn't put it past Howe's side to have another excellent season. Get Yoane Wissa on board too and the Magpies have a frightening squad.

Watkins update

Another striker reportedly of interest to Newcastle United this summer is Aston Villa's Ollie Watkins. The England international has also been linked with other clubs, as well, but it appears he will not be on the move.

Sister site Birmingham Live explains that senior Villa sources indicate the club will not allow the sale of the striker in the final two weeks of the transfer window - it is simply not on their agenda.

ChronicleLive says: If Isak was to leave Newcastle before the end of the summer, I think that Watkins would have been the perfect short-term replacement. Turning 30 in December, Watkins would have (at least) another couple of years at the top level - and he could have done a very good job for the time being.

The England international, like Isak, is proven in the Premier League and has caused Newcastle a number of issues over recent seasons. He would have been an astute signing for the Magpies.
