All the early injury news surrounding Chelsea and West Ham as they prepare to face off in the Premier League.
Chelsea and West Ham are back in action on Friday night when they face off at the London Stadium. The Blues were left frustrated by Crystal Palace in their season opener over the weekend, while the Hammers go into their home opener after a forgettable 3-0 defeat to newcomers Sunderland.
It will be interesting to see how each of the teams respond here, and as the build-up to the Friday night clash begins, we have rounded up the early injury news surrounding both teams.
Crysencio Summerville - Out
Summerville has been struggling for months with a hamstring issue. Potter said before the Sunderland game: “We’ve still got Crysencio Summerville in the last stages of his rehab, so he won’t be available, but he’s getting really close, so that’s good for us.” Those comments suggest Summerville will not be ready yet.
George Earthy - Out
The young talent has an ankle injury that will keep him out. Potter said before the Sunderland game: “George Earthy still had an injury that he sustained early in pre-season. Apart from that, we’re pretty much close to full availability.” Earthy is not expected to return yet.
Luis Guilherme - Out
Guilherme has a clavicle fracture that is going to keep him out.
Benoit Badiashile - Doubt
Badiashile has a small injury issue that has kept him out for a couple of weeks. Maresca said before the last game that the defender is 'in the process of coming back'. He will go down as a doubt here.
Romeo Lavia - Doubt
Like Badiashile, Maresca has said Lavia is in the process of working his way back to full fitness.
Tosin Adarabioyo - Doubt
Maresca has said of the centre-back: “Tosin had a physical problem. We don’t know for how long. There is a small injury, he needs some days off, then we will see for the next game.”
Wesley Fofana - Fit
Fofana looks set to return after a long lay off with his knee injury. Maresca has said: “Wes was on the bench but was just on the bench to be with us and the plan was for him not to get any minutes. Now hopefully for the next one, we can use Wes for some minutes. We are very happy first of all for Wes because after a long time he deserved to be back with us.'”
Dario Essugo - Doubt
Maresca said during the early stages of the summer: “Dario had a muscle problem yesterday during the session, so he is going to be ready for next season.” He will go down as a doubt until we have a further update.
Levi Colwill - Out
Colwill has been ruled out for much of - if not all of - the season after an ACL injury. Maresca said in his pre-match press conference: “He is ok, aware he will be out for a long time,' Maresca said. 'It’s a big loss for us. You know how important Levi has been for us last season and the way we want to play. We have said many times that we are able to create chances and attack if we’re able to build up the right way, and Levi was a huge part of our build-up.”
Myhailo Mudryk - Out (Suspended)
Mudryk remains suspended due to alleged doping. A statement at the time read: “We can confirm that Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged with Anti-Doping Rule Violations alleging the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance, in terms of Regulations 3 and 4 of The FA's Anti-Doping Regulations. As this is an ongoing case, we are not in a position to comment further at this time.”
