Newcastle United confirm Alexander Isak latest in official statement

Newcastle United have issued a strong response to Alexander Isak’s Instagram statement.

Isak issued a statement about his desire to leave Newcastle on Tuesday, having skipped the PFA Player of the Year Awards amid ongoing speculation over his future.

Isak wants to join Liverpool this summer but Newcastle continue to insist the striker simply isn’t for sale.

The Sweden international still has three years to go on his contract at St James’ Park and, so far at least, the Reds have not come anywhere close to Newcastle’s valuation.

It is a messy saga and one that has bruised the club throughout. Isak is Newcastle’s star player but is trying to force a move away to a club who have so far refused to meet his asking price.

On Tuesday, Newcastle issued their response.

Newcastle United release Alexander Isak statement

The club posted their statement on the Newcastle United official website.

They stressed that there was never any agreement that Isak could leave this summer. Newcastle also confirm that while they have listened to Isak’s wishes, they just do not see the conditions they would need to sell him materialising during what remains of the summer transfer window.

Here is the statement in full.

“We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening,” it read.

“We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer.

“We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired.

“We do not foresee those conditions being met.

“This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

When Alexander Isak could play for Newcastle United again

Newcastle do not expect Isak to play for them again while the summer transfer window is open, and it remains to be seen what happens from there.

If their timeline is correct, however, then the 25-year-old could play against Wolves on Saturday 13 September, 2025. That currently feels unlikely, but stranger things have happened in football.

The club, after all, say he will be “welcomed” back when he is ready.

Right now, he looks set to stay at the club. Clearly, things could change, but Newcastle themselves do not see conditions for a sale being met.

They would first need to sign replacements, and Liverpool would have to increase their bid.
