Report: Striker that Leeds wanted to sign earlier this month now forced to train with the under-23s

A striker who was heavily linked to Leeds United during the 2025 summer transfer window will train with his team’s under-23s side amid links with a move away.

Having prioritised strengthening their defence and midfield in the early stages of the transfer, Leeds have now switched their attention to giving Daniel Farke the reinforcements he needs in attack.

The arrival of England international Dominic Calvert-Lewin gave Farke a welcome boost, with the former Everton man set to compete with Joel Piroe and Lukas Nmecha for the centre forward spot.

AC Milan winger Noah Okafor looks set to become the next forward player to join the Whites as Farke gets the winger he has been coveting since Leeds missed out in their pursuit of Igor Paixao.

Iranian international Mehdi Taremi was one player linked with Leeds earlier in the window. Now, reports in Italy suggest he will train with Inter Milan’s under-23s as he looks set to leave the club.

Former Leeds United target relegated to the Inter Milan under-23s

According to a report from Sky Sports Italy, Taremi will finally rejoin the Inter squad after missing the Club World Cup, having been stranded by the Iran-Israel conflict.

However, the transfer-linked Taremi will not rejoin the first squad. He will instead work with the under-23s as Inter look to move him out in the transfer window.

The report states: “After a long absence, Mehdi Taremi, who is not included in new Inter coach Cristian Chivu’s technical plan and who missed the Club World Cup (the player was stranded in his country on June 14 during the Iran-Israel conflict), returned to Italy today (19th August) to undergo some physical tests.

“The news is that the Iranian striker will return to training tomorrow, not with the first team, but with the Under-23s.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin signing may rule out Mehdi Taremi swoop

Although Chivu’s decision to relegate Taremi to the youth team increases his chances of leaving Inter, it does not necessarily increase the likelihood that he will make a move to Elland Road.

Calvert-Lewin’s arrival means Leeds now have three senior options in attack and Nmecha’s penalty should help ease Farke’s doubts over his options in attack.

If Okafor’s deal goes through as expected, the Whites are close to completing their attack. Their hunt for a number 10, which saw them linked with Bilal El Khannouss, would then be the only missing piece in the puzzle.

As things stand, it would take something out of the ordinary for Farke to dip back into the market for a forward.
