'Digging in': Man Utd lower price by£20m for player with club advancing in talks

Manchester United have had a promising transfer window with four signings.

There could be more activity in the coming days, but it could depend on player departures.

Alejandro Garnacho is one of those expected to leave, but as things stand, there has been no progress.

The Argentine is determined to move to west London with Chelsea before the deadline. He is so assured that he has turned down an approach from Bayern Munich, as per Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, United are also ‘digging in’ and are standing firm on their £50 million valuation. They have come down from their previous £70m price tag for the winger.

Should a move not materialise, Garnacho has informed United that he is prepared to sit on the bench for the next six months or the entirety of the 2025/26 campaign.

Another report from Daily Mail reveals that United will only allow Garnacho to join Chelsea if their £50m price tag is met. All evidence points to their valuation being entirely fair and accurate.

United should not offload Garnacho on the cheap

The Argentine had a good 2024/25 season with the Red Devils. He made 21 goal contributions from 58 games. Despite this, he does not feature in the manager’s plans this term.

Ruben Amorim has told him to find a new club, but a transfer has not materialised thus far. Garnacho is adamant that he wants to join Chelsea and won’t entertain alternative offers.

Chelsea have a free run at signing the 21-year-old and they are aiming to capitalise. The London outfit reportedly value Garnacho at just over £25m, according to Sky Sports.

The Blues left it late to secure a cut-price loan for Jadon Sancho last summer, and INEOS must not loosen their stance on Garnacho, given their valuation is pretty much accurate.

The likes of Noni Madueke, Jamie Gittens and Anthony Elanga have left their respective clubs for over £50m, and Garnacho is equally talented as the trio with a higher ceiling.

Garnacho may have informed his plans to sit on the bench, but the move does not benefit him. He would be completely out of the picture for the World Cup next summer.

Chelsea may also not return for his services in 12 months. Hence, a deal is more or less likely to happen.

United should not sell him for less than £40m if there is some negotiation gap before the transfer window closes.
