Liverpool's pursuit of Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi could be impacted if Arsenal opt to make a move for young French sensation Jeremy Jacquet.

Jacquet, 20, is reportedly the player Palace have in mind as a potential replacement for England international Guehi. The Eagles are claimed to be open to parting ways with the ex-Chelsea defender this summer, who has less than a year left on his contract.

The 25-year-old, who seemed to have a minor disagreement with Eagles manager Oliver Glasner over the weekend, could leave for free when his deal expires next summer. Negotiations between Liverpool and Palace over a deal to bring the player to Anfield are ongoing, but there is reportedly a £10million discrepancy in Guehi's valuation.

The Independent reports Liverpool are prepared to pay £35m, while Palace are holding out for £45m, despite his contract situation. Much like the ongoing saga of Alexander Isak's potential move to Liverpool, Palace are keen to bring in a replacement before allowing Guehi to leave.

This is due to the limited time remaining in the transfer window and Palace's tactical setup requiring three central defenders. Guehi was in the starting eleven for the Eagles' goalless draw against Chelsea on Sunday.

However, the Eagles have reportedly identified Rennes star Jacquet as a target, who has also attracted interest from Arsenal this summer. If Palace pursue the £35m-rated youngster, it may force the north Londoners' hand.

In turn, the Gunners stepping up their interest in Jacquet could potentially leave Palace without a replacement and needing to keep Guehi at Selhurst Park. While Arsenal were believed to be eyeing Jacquet for next season, there is a scenario where they sign him this summer and loan him back to a Ligue 1 club, similar to what they did with William Saliba.

He had three loan stints in his homeland before becoming a mainstay for Mikel Arteta and one of the Premier League's most dependable defenders. Arsenal might view the young centre-back as defensive cover should Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jakub Kiwior depart the Emirates Stadium this summer.

Another potential hurdle in Guehi's move to Anfield is Rennes' firm stance that Jacquet, who signed a new contract in May, is not up for sale this summer. The French club reportedly sees him as a key player for the future and hope to keep hold of him.

Discussing the futures of Guehi and Eberechi Eze, who is nearing a move to Tottenham Hotspur, Glasner stated his players are committed to the club.

"Ebs and Marc, there has been a lot of noise about these two players in the last week," he told Match of the Day. "Everyone could see the performances against Liverpool and today, they were 100 per cent aligned with this team and Crystal Palace."

Meanwhile, Liverpool are reportedly biding their time for Newcastle to bring in a striker before launching a fresh approach for Isak. Brentford's Yoane Wissa is believed to be high on Eddie Howe's wishlist, but the Bees are currently refusing to budge on their reported £60m valuation.
