Man Utd considered signing a midfielder in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Sevilla star Lucien Agoume in the final weeks of the summer transfer window after they missed out on Brighton ace Carlos Baleba.
Ruben Amorim viewed Baleba as the idea fit for his tactical approach but United were priced out of a move by Brighton, who wanted at least £115 million to sell their star midfielder before deadline day. The fact a move was considered highlighted United's desire to sign a midfielder, though it is unclear whether they will pursue any alternatives during the current window.
United will prioritise player exits before the European transfer deadline on Monday 1 September, with the club still eager to move on Rasmus Hojlund, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Tyrell Malacia and Antony. If they manage to bring in enough money, they could explore a late midfield addition, with Agoume the latest name linked with a move to Old Trafford.

Romano issues Lucien Agoume update
Manchester United have been linked with a move for Lucien Agoume as they consider a midfield signing in the final days of the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old has been a star performer for Sevilla, with 52 appearances for the club since he joined them from Inter two years ago.
A report from Orgullobiri Sevilla claims Agoume has a £35million release clause in his Sevilla contract but the La Liga club would actually accept a lower fee as long as the financial package was still attractive to them. It means United could sign the midfielder for as little as £26m, far less than the amount it would take to sign Carlos Baleba.
It almost sounds too good to be true, and according to Fabrizio Romano, it might be. Writing in his latest GIVEMESPORT newsletter, the transfer guru was asked for an update on Agoume and was unable to confirm any genuine interest from United in his signature. "I'm not aware of Man United opening talks for other midfielders after Baleba... yet. Let's see in the upcoming days," he said.
Agoume played the entire match and scored a goal as Sevilla lost 3-2 to Athletic Club on the opening weekend of the new La Liga season.
