Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah believes Arsenal are favourites for the 2025/26 Premier League title. The Reds and Gunners each got the new season underway in winning fashion with a second successive battle for the trophy potentially brewing.
Last season the Reds stormed to the Premier League title in Arne Slot's first season as head coach. Playing a huge part in that was Salah, who recorded a combined 47 goals and assists as his team went on to finish the 2024/25 campaign with a total of 84 points.
Liverpool had wrapped up the race with four matches spare as Arsenal eventually came home runners-up by a 10-point margin.
The Gunners have responded by adding seven new signings worth almost £200m combined to the squad Mikel Arteta has been able to establish over the last six years since he was appointed boss at the Emirates Stadium. Chief amongst those arrivals are striker Viktor Gyokeres and defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
Therefore Salah believes the Reds' rivals are so strong that they are the early frontrunners to go on and claim the title this time around.
Taking part in a TikTok live stream from the red carpet of the PFA Awards gala at Manchester Opera House on Tuesday evening, presenter Cecil Thomas admitted to the Liverpool attacker that he is an Arsenal fan. Salah was playfully asked to 'slow down' to give the Gunners a chance at winning the league.
"I think you have a great team this season," Salah responded honestly. "You have a really good chance.
"I think you are favourites now because you have players [that have] been together for five years now. I can’t say I wish you luck but hopefully we do it again."
Salah should get a chance to test his theory early this season when Arsenal visit at Anfield on Sunday, August 31st. It gives the reigning champions an intriguing test against the side who were closest to them last term.
Liverpool themselves have also been active in the transfer market, making vast changes to Slot's title-winning squad.
Almost £300m has been spent on eight new arrivals. They are British-record signing Florian Wirtz, plus Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Giovanni Leoni, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman.
In turn, they have raised almost £200m from departures as first-teamers Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have all moved on. Fringe players Caoimhin Kelleher, Jarell Quansah, Ben Doak, Tyler Morton and Nat Phillips have also helped to bring in significant sums.
