Leeds United have cooled their transfer interest in Kalvin Phillips, according to the Daily Mail. A return to Elland Road has been mooted all summer for the 29-year-old.
And The Mail report says the Whites were among the clubs keen on signing the Manchester City man on loan earlier in the transfer window but have since signed Sean Longstaff and Anton Stach to strengthen their midfield options. The national newspaper states other Premier League clubs remain interested in signing Phillips.
England international Phillips has been recovering from Achilles surgery and is looking to be fully fit by September. The Mail claim Phillips is still expected to leave the Premier League giants in the final days of the transfer window.
United are well-stocked in central midfield following the arrivals of Longstaff and Stach. Daniel Farke can also call upon Ethan Ampadu, Ao Tanaka and Ilia Gruev in the middle of the park.
New boy Stach was selected alongside Ampadu and Tanaka in Monday's clash against Everton. The trio worked well together as the Whites dominated the midfield battle.
With 12 days to go until the transfer window closes, the priority for Farke is to bring in more attacking reinforcements. AC Milan forward Noah Okafor is closing in on a move to Elland Road. A reported €21m deal has been agreed, including bonuses, and Okafor is due to undergo a medical at Thorp Arch today. Switzerland international Okafor spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie A side Napoli.
But Farke has not ruled out signing a new striker before the market closes on September 1. There is also a chance a new No 10 could come through the door to increase the attacking options Farke has at his disposal.
