Deal close–Full back set for Liverpool exit

Liverpool have arrived at a decision and have agreed to part ways with defender Kostas Tsimikas. The player will soon be heading for the exit doors at Anfield Stadium.

The club have two weeks more or less to find a potential suitor for the Greece international and complete the formalities of the deal. The club have been linked with a number of defenders in recent times and have decided to pursue other alternatives to Kostas Tsimikas.

Initial reports emerging from Anfield revealed that a permanent move was preferred by the club. However, it is now understood that the club is also open to a temporary move for the defender. Transfer specialist, Farbizio Romano, has shed light on this possible deal in the coming days by taking to Twitter and stating –

The Anfield chapter

Liverpool announced the signing of Kostas Tsimikas in 2020 from Olympiacos. The player has had a topsy-turvy time in England. However, Tsimikas has largely played second fiddle to Andy Robertson for the left-back position.

Since arriving at Liverpool, the player has featured for the side a total of 115 times. However, the arrival of Arne Slot last summer has reduced 29 year old left-back’s game time further. Last season, Kostas made only 29 appearances with 18 as a starter.

Why leave Anfield?

The player is also not considered central to Slot’s plan at Anfield this season. Andy Robertson and new summer recruit, Milos Kerkez, are believed to be Slot’s two primary left-backs for the season.

This was further highlighted during Liverpool’s Premier League opener against Bournemouth, where Kostas Tsimikas was left out of the squad altogether. The player’s absence from the matchday squad reignited media speculation over the future of the full-back at Liverpool.

Liverpool have had an astonishing summer transfer window, where the club has spent over £300 million, with marquee signing Florian Wirtz costing a staggering £116 million himself. The outlay is not yet done at the club, and they are lined up to sign a few more players before the window closes.

The club are in close contact with Crystal Palace over a transfer of Marc Guehi. The defender is in the last year of his contract, and the Reds could capitalise on this situation with a low-ball offer.

It remains to be seen if Liverpool are able to conduct more shrewd transfer business in the coming days. Arne Slot and his men seem well poised to defend the Premier League title.
