‘He is very sharp’: Alex Iwobi says he now wants Fulham to sign ‘explosive’ Arsenal star

Hale End academy graduate Alex Iwobi has gone on to enjoy a lot of success since leaving Arsenal.

Alex Iwobi initially moved to Everton from Arsenal in 2019, before then making the switch to Fulham in 2023.

Now 29 years old, Iwobi has become one of Marco Silva’s most consistent performers at Craven Cottage, where he now plays alongside several other former Arsenal stars.

Bernd Leno captains Fulham, whilst Emile Smith Rowe has also recently joined Iwobi in west London.

And when it comes to who might come in at Fulham before the end of the month, Iwobi is keen for his side to re-sign Reiss Nelson, who was on loan at Silva’s side last season.

Alex Iwobi is desperate for Fulham to re-sign Reiss Nelson from Arsenal

In an injury-hit season for Fulham, Nelson was only able to make 12 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice and providing one assist.

But in a recent interview with Standard Sport, Iwobi admitted that he was very keen for Nelson to join Fulham again this season.

TBR Football have previously confirmed that Arsenal are ready to sell Nelson this summer and the winger is available to interested clubs.

But given that Nelson doesn’t want to leave Arsenal permanently just yet, perhaps another season on loan at Fulham would ultimately suit all parties.

Asked about Nelson’s situation, Iwobi said: “His style of play is very explosive. He is very sharp. I just hope that he returns fit and healthy as soon as possible.

“It would be nice for him to come back to Fulham, because we know the sort of player he is. I can try to be an agent – but I am not!

“There is a specific group chat – I am not going to name names – but a lot of people are pressuring him, trying to find out what is going on! Me, I am not one of them!”

Emile Smith Rowe will get back to his best at Fulham

Although Smith Rowe had an amazing start at Fulham last season, he ultimately struggled across the season – he couldn’t maintain his early levels.

And when speaking in the same interview, Iwobi did seem convinced that his fellow Hale End graduate would find consistency at Fulham, as soon as he got some luck with his fitness.

Iwobi added: “The thing about Emile – everyone knows his qualities. When you train with him, when you see him playing constantly, you know the sort of player he is.

“The main struggle he had was just remaining fit. That is when you get the best out of him. He just needs to remain fit and I am sure everyone will see the best of Emile.”

A lot of Arsenal fans are still invested in Smith Rowe’s progress at their London rivals – there’s so much goodwill behind the popular playmaker.

And perhaps this will be the season in which the ‘Croydon De Bruyne’ finds his best levels again.
