Amorim's£26m bargain: Man United eyeing cut-price move for'Baleba alternative'

Manchester United are reportedly giving serious consideration to moving for Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume before this summer's transfer window closes for business.

The Red Devils want to boost their midfield department before the end of the market and are currently looking at alternatives to Brighton & Hove Albion's Carlos Baleba.

The 20-time English champions view Baleba as their leading target in that area of the field, but a deal this summer is viewed as almost impossible due to the money involved, with the Cameroon international instead expected to leave the Amex during the summer of 2026.

Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton and Atalanta BC's Ederson have also been linked with moves to Old Trafford, but the duo would also cost major money at this stage of the summer window.

According to Orgullo Biri, Agoume has emerged as a genuine target for Man United, with the midfielder having a €40m (£35m) release clause in his Sevilla contract.

Inter Milan will also receive 10% from any future sale, but it is thought to be possible that the Frenchman could be signed for under his release clause during the summer market.

Reports in Spain have suggested that he could be available for €30m (£26m), making him a potential bargain signing for the Red Devils in the latter stages of the transfer window.

Agoume made the move to Sevilla from Inter in 2024, and he has represented his current side on 50 occasions in all competitions, including 37 appearances during the 2024-25 campaign.

Arsenal have also previously been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, while there are believed to be other teams in the Premier League keeping a close eye on his situation.

Would Agoume be a good signing for Man United?

Man United's midfield two of Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes were impressive against Arsenal in the team's opening match of the new Premier League campaign, while Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte are also options in that area.

Sekou Kone could break into the first team this season, meanwhile, so head coach Ruben Amorim does have numbers in the middle, but Christian Eriksen has moved on this summer, and Toby Collyer has departed on loan.

As a result, there is space for a midfield addition this summer, and at £26m, Agoume could be an absolute bargain for the Red Devils considering his quality and potential to improve in the coming years.
