Report: Nottingham Forest want to bring back a former player who is ‘cheaper’ than Rico Lewis

Nottingham Forest are going to ramp up their search for new full-backs before the transfer window closes.

Forest have been active in recent days, with three new players joining the City Ground ranks since the weekend.

Arnaud Kalimuendo signed for Forest on Monday, and now the challenge is strengthening the defensive positions on the pitch.

Forest have Neco Williams and Ola Aina as the full-back options right now, but there is very little in reserve when it comes to the Reds.

Now, Nuno Espirito Santo looks set to turn to a player who is very well known on Trentside.

Nottingham Forest want Matty Cash

According to The Athletic, Forest are exploring the possibility of re-signing Cash with Aston Villa looking to sell to meet PSR restrictions.

Forest were linked with Jacob Ramsey from Villa and although he’s now signed for Newcastle, more departures look inevitable from Villa Park.

Cash has been hailed ‘outstanding’ for his performances for Villa and he’s developed into one of the best right-backs in the Premier League since signing for the club.

At this stage, Forest haven’t made a formal approach and they’re actually considering offering Cash a brand new contract to fend off the interest.

Cash will be cheaper than Rico Lewis

Lewis has been linked with Forest, but he could cost north of £30 million should he sign for Forest this summer.

As a result, Cash would likely be a cheaper option given Villa’s financial situation, which they’re looking to resolve this summer.

Cash made 131 appearances for Forest after rising through the club’s academy ranks, scoring 13 goals and claiming 14 assists.

Since signing for Villa, he’s played 181 times, featuring in the Conference League and Champions League during his time in the West Midlands.

This doesn’t feel like an easy deal to do, but if Forest can bring Cash back to the City Ground, it would likely be very popular with the fan base.
