A deal to suit all parties? Hojlund 'nearing' £35m Man United departure

AC Milan are reportedly hopeful of securing a deal for Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund before the end of the week, with the San Siro giants seen as the firm favourites for his signature.

Hojlund was left out of the Man United squad for the team's 2025-26 Premier League opener against Arsenal on Sunday, with the Denmark international not in Ruben Amorim's plans moving forward.

The 22-year-old has expressed a desire to remain at Old Trafford this summer and fight for his spot in the side.

However, the Red Devils have signed Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig to be their new starting striker, while Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have also been attacking additions to the squad this summer.

Milan have been heavily linked with Hojlund in recent weeks, but it is understood that Fulham, Napoli and his former club Atalanta BC have also expressed an interest in signing him before the end of the transfer window.

Milan 'hoping' to secure Hojlund signature this week

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are still looking to loan Hojlund for the 2025-26 campaign, but there could now be an obligation to buy the striker during next summer's transfer window.

The report claims that the Dane would have to achieve certain goals for the move to be made permanent, giving Milan some protection if the forward struggles to make his mark at San Siro.

Milan are believed to be confident that the deal would suit all parties, and Hojlund is thought to be keen to keen to leave Man United on a permanent basis if he has to move on.

The obligation to buy next summer could reportedly be set at £35m, with Man United therefore potentially receiving a huge boost to their transfer budget at the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Will Man United be made to regret Hojlund exit?

Hojlund has a record of 26 goals and six assists in 95 appearances for Man United, and while he has had some positive moments, it has been difficult for the striker at Old Trafford.

It is clear that Amorim is now moving the team in a new direction, and the Red Devils were much, much better in the final third of the field against Arsenal in their 2025-26 opener.

Hojlund could make Man United regret a sale, though, as he is a player capable of scoring 25 goals a season at the right club; Milan may now be the team to benefit from his struggles in English football.
