Gustavo Hamer is a player who Leeds United have liked for a long time, and after Sheffield United missed out on promotion to the Premier League last season, it’s looked inevitable that he would leave this summer.
However, Gustavo Hamer remains with Sheffield United for the time being. The Dutchman has started the new campaign with the Blades, who have made a poor start under manager Ruben Selles, with defeats in their opening three games of the season.
Last time round, Hamer won the Championship Player of the Season award with 10 goals and eight assists in 44 league appearances.
Then going into this summer, Leeds United’s links to Hamer were reignited, though the Whites have faced competition from Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven throughout the transfer window.
So far this summer, Leeds United have signed eight new players, though a new number 10 or a goalscoring midfielder still seems like a priority for manager Daniel Farke.

Gustavo Hamer will only leave Sheffield United for one club, it’s not Leeds
There has been a lot of back and forth over whether or not Hamer leaves Bramall Lane this season and whether or not he would want a Premier League move or a European move. The last that was reported on the matter was that Hamer was not interested in joining Leeds United this summer.
That came despite news that Hamer would prefer a Premier League move. The latest comes from The Star. They report that a move to the Netherlands could be ‘incredibly appealing’ for Hamer and that if interest from the Netherlands does not materialise, then the Brazilian-born Hamer is said to be ‘content at United and will not actively seek to move anywhere else’.
Season Games Goals Assists
24/25 (Sheff Utd) 44 10 8
23/24 (Sheff Utd) 36 4 6
22/23 (Coventry) 44 11 10
That all but means Leeds United’s pursuit of Hamer is over. However, The Star does add that Hamer’s preference to move to the Netherlands ‘does not rule out the possibility that he does leave, if the Blades receive a bid they feel is too good to turn down’.

The latest on Leeds United’s search for a new attacking midfielder
Whether or not Leeds United still need a new number 10 remains to be seen. Farke has options capable of playing that role, like Anton Stach and Ao Tanaka who was impressive against Everton on Monday night. But Leeds continue to be linked with players in that position.
The main one is Bilal El Khannouss. Though recent reports have revealed that Crystal Palace are pushing hardest to sign El Khannouss right now, with the Eagles looking as though they might need a replacement for Spurs-linked Ebere Eze.
Elsewhere, recent reports have linked Leeds United with a move for Christantus Uche at Getafe. The Nigerian international scored four and assisted six more in 33 La Liga games last season. Leeds still have money to spend this summer, despite having spent close to £80m already.
Expect Farke to want at least one more attacking addition, with a number 10 or a winger perhaps preferred, or someone who can operate in both positions.
