German side Werder Bremen have turned their attention to Arsenal goalkeeper Karl Hein and believe his contract situation could help them to secure a bargain deal.
That’s [according to BILD](https://www.bild.de/), who report that Bremen are working intensively to find a replacement for Michael Zetterer, who is moving to Eintracht Frankfurt.
The initial focus was on Alexander Schwolow but that has now changed, and Arsenal’s Karl Hein is becoming the leading choice.
Werder see him not only as a goalkeeper who can take on the number one role should it be required but also an inexpensive option.
His current gross salary at Arsenal without bonuses is believed to be no higher than €1m. That makes him a good option for Werder financially.
They also have a good relationship with the Gunners thanks to Per Mertesacker, who is head of the Gunners’ youth academy. That can help them get a deal that suits them.
The fact that his current deal also expires in 2026 means it’s the last opportunity for Arsenal to get money for him, another factor in Werder’s favour.
It seems they are now ready to move on the goalkeeper as they seek a new shot stopper and fancy Hein as the inexpensive option.
