Inside Elland Road - Leeds United quintet get PFA recognition and Sheffield Wednesday boycott

A number of Leeds United players were recognised in the PFA awards ceremony on Tuesday evening following an historic Championship campaign.

Five members of the title-winning team were named in the second tier’s team of the year, as voted for by fellow professionals. Jayden Bogle, Ao Tanaka, Joel Piroe and Daniel James all made the team with former left-back Junior Firpo also selected.

It meant the likes of Joe Rodon and loanee Manor Solomon were overlooked, albeit the five inclusions saw Leeds become the team most represented. Ex-Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford, now of Manchester City, won the Championship player of the season, beating James and Tanaka to the accolade.

Sheffield Wednesday fan protest vs Leeds

The Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust has urged fellow club fans not to purchase tickets for Tuesday’s League Cup tie at home to Leeds in protest of the ongoing ownership nadir with Dejphon Chansiri.

The group is leading the charge to force Chansiri into a sale amid a disastrous reign that has led to dereliction of on-field and off-field stability. Instead of buying tickets next week, the Trust has encouraged would-be match-goers to instead donate the money to charity.

A statement explaining the boycott said: “Our reasoning is clear; every ticket sold puts further money into the hands of an owner who has shown nothing but contempt for the fanbase and disregard for the long-term future of our club.”

Guilavogui send message to Nmecha

Josuha Guilavogui may have left Leeds in May but his influence can still be seen this season. Lukas Nmecha has described how a chat with his former Wolfsburg teammate further persuaded him to sign on at Elland Road this summer.

Of course, the striker slotted home Monday’s winner from the penalty spot against Everton. Guilavogui hosted a group watchalong of the match and subsequently posted images of the night, which showed all attendees wearing Leeds attire and cheering the Whites on.

Sharing this on social media, he entitled the caption: “What a start to the season. We want more. PS: Lukas you own [sic] me this shirt” alongside an emoji sometimes used to refer to transfers.
