Liverpool have remained silent after Alexander Isak and Newcastle United exchanged barbs on Tuesday night.
There were two major twists to this never-ending saga, with Isak speaking out for the first time this summer.
Isak claims that promises have been broken and that it is best for everyone that he is allowed to leave the club.
Newcastle responded to Isak with a statement of their own, making it clear that the ‘conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired’.
Isak wants to join Liverpool, but where do they stand in this situation?

Newcastle United ‘not happy’ as Liverpool get set to go back in for Alexander Isak
Having already made one bid for Isak, transfer expert Graeme Bailey has told Geordie Boot Boys that he expects Liverpool to launch a fresh approach after the two sides face off at St James’ Park on Monday night.
“Newcastle responded quickly to Isak but they were clearly not happy,” he said.
“Isak is doubling down here, he seems to be making sure that any Newcastle fan who still wanted him back is now switching camps.

“Isak’s situation is not untenable, as much as he would like it to be. I don’t see the door being completely shut on him but let’s see how these two weeks play out. This thing is not over yet.
“I do expect Liverpool to come back in next week following their game at the weekend.
“We know Newcastle are still working on options.”
Newcastle United have made clear one thing they will not do for Alexander Isak
It is for the best that Isak leaves Newcastle United. He has burned all of his bridges, with fans desperate to see the back of him.
However, Newcastle United can only make that happen on their terms. They have been willing to facilitate a move, but only if the situation is right for the club. That is their main priority.
There has been a clear way for Isak to leave. Newcastle want £150million for Isak, but that sum has not been offered as of yet. Newcastle need a replacement for Isak, and have tried to buy one. There were bids for Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko and Joao Pedro.
They did not arrive, and now Newcastle are in a situation where they are struggling to find a suitable replacement.
Newcastle could cash in on Isak for less than their asking price and just buy any striker to draw a line under the situation, but that would not be in the club’s best interest. That is their priority right now, which is why Isak looks likely to stay put.
