'Simple as that': Micah Richards issues honest response when asked if Graham Potter will get sacked this season

Everything went wrong for West Ham United in their opening game of the new season.

The Hammers travelled to the Stadium of Light to kick off their Premier League campaign against Sunderland, and it was always going to be a difficult game.

Graham Potter’s side suffered a 3-0 defeat against the Black Cats, and that has increased the concerns for the rest of the season.

Now, some fans have lost their faith in Potter, and there is a real possibility that he will lose his job in the coming months.

Micah Richards responds when asked if Graham Potter will get sacked at West Ham this season

Potter was appointed as the new West Ham boss in January this year after the Irons parted ways with Julen Lopetegui.

The Hammers were 14th in the Premier League table at the time, seven points above the drop zone, and Potter’s job was to keep them in the division.

The Englishman did that, but he did not improve West Ham’s position – they still finished 14th in the table.

Potter’s record at West Ham looked awful at the end of last season, and it has got worse after the 3-0 defeat to Sunderland on the opening day.

The 50-year-old has a 25 per cent win rate as Irons boss, which is an abysmal return at a club that won the Conference League just two years ago.

West Ham fans are questioning Potter’s future at the club already, and Micah Richards feels he will get sacked if his win percentage doesn’t go up in the coming games.

When asked if Potter will last the season at West Ham, he said on the Rest is Football podcast: “I think Potter has been in charge for 20 games and has got a 25 per cent win rate. That is not good enough.

“If it carries on like that, I don’t think he will be there at the end of the season. I was listening to an interview with Karen Brady at the weekend. It was really insightful, actually.

“She used the words ‘I hope’ rather than ‘he will’, and I was just thinking, we can all hope things work out, but at the end of the day, the Premier League, the biggest league in the world, you’ve got to win games, it’s as simple as that.

“And if he stays with that record, even though I rate him as a manager, he won’t be there by the end of the season. It’s as simple as that.”

Graham Potter could be in trouble at West Ham very soon

It’s never nice to talk about someone potentially losing their job.

Potter is a great manager, but results are what matter in the Premier League, and that could be the reason why he is shown the door very soon.

West Ham’s next four games in the league are against Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace.

There is a genuine chance that the Irons could lose all four of those games – they lost at least once to each of the above teams last season.

If there is a repeat of that in the coming weeks, we think there will be a change at the London Stadium.
