RB Leipzig defender an option for Chelsea after Colwill injury

Chelsea are considering an approach to sign RB Leipzig defender Castello Lukeba, following Levi Colwill’s long-term injury.

Colwill sustained an ACL injury earlier this month and is expected to miss the majority of the campaign. The England defender underwent surgery on the issue and Enzo Maresca has spoken publicly of his desire to bring in reinforcements.

Leipzig defender Lukeba is an option, according to 90min. The Frenchman has been on the watch-list of several Premier League teams in recent transfer windows after two impressive campaigns in Germany.

A natural left-footer, he could be an ideal replacement for Colwill amid Maresca’s concerns over Chelsea’s build-up in his absence.

Lukeba reportedly has a release clause of €90m (£77.6m) in his Leipzig contract but there would be confidence of negotiating a lower fee.

Chelsea are currently in talks with Leipzig over the sale of forward Christopher Nkunku to the German side.
