Mohamed Salah was meant to be the main focus of attention at the 2025 PFA Awards last night as he scooped the Men's Player of the Year Prize. An Alexander Isak bombshell midway through the event, however, stole all the headlines.
Indeed, the Newcastle striker slammed his club, suggesting they had broken promises by not allowing him to leave. Liverpool have been linked with the player, and the club's stars were said to react with 'pure surprise and excitement' after the news broke during the ceremony.
Isak's behaviour quite likely will move him one step closer to his much-desired move to Anfield – even if the Magpies remain adamant he won't be sold. If the 25-year-old does join Arne Slot's men, they will no doubt be favourites to win the Premier League in successive seasons.
That said, Salah was asked who his personal 'favourites were to win the title in 2025/26, and he did not name his own team.
Salah Tips Arsenal For Glory

Before all the drama with Isak had kicked off, Salah arrived at the PFA awards almost certainly knowing that he'd be named Men's Player of the Year and also earn his spot in the Premier League Team of the Year. As such, he was in a relaxed mood as he spoke with the press before the ceremony began.
One reported admitted he was an Arsenal fan, and asked Salah if there was any chance he was going to slow down any time soon. The Egyptian laughed and then replied:
"I think you have a great team this season, also last season. You have a really good chance. I think you are favourites now because you have players that have been together for five years."
Despite praising Arsenal, he hastened to add that he could not wish the club any 'luck' as he is hoping that Liverpool can retain their Premier League title.

Despite Salah insisting that Arsenal are the front-runners this season, many feel as though Liverpool are actually the favourites. Indeed, Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney, and Rio Ferdinand are among the many pundits who have backed Salah and co to finish first once again.
It's still far too early to make a call, but both teams got off to a good start in the Premier League, as the Reds beat Bournemouth, while Arsenal won away at Old Trafford. The two title-hunting teams actually meet at Anfield in just the third game of the season.
If Liverpool have signed Isak by that stage, it feels likely that even more fans and pundits will rank them as their favourites, regardless of Salah's claim.
