Despite ongoing scrutiny of their goalkeeping situation, Manchester United is not expected to pursue a new shot-stopper before the close of the transfer window, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The club is reportedly standing by its current first and second-choice keepers, Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir.

The decision comes on the heels of a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal, in which a glaring error from Bayindir contributed to the winning goal. The Turkish keeper had been deputizing for Onana, who missed the season opener.

United has been linked with a number of high-profile goalkeepers throughout the summer, including Gianluigi Donnarumma of Paris Saint-Germain and Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez.

There were even rumors of a sensational return for former number one David de Gea. However, it appears the club’s strategy is to trust in their existing options.

Onana’s debut season was marked by inconsistent performances, but sources indicate that the club maintains a firm belief that his abilities are on par with other top Premier League goalkeepers.

The Cameroon international missed the entire pre-season due to injury, and manager Ruben Amorim denied that Onana’s absence from the matchday squad was a disciplinary measure.

“I didn’t drop Onana from the squad,” Amorim stated after the Arsenal game. “It’s not putting Onana in just one week without seeing the game, without time, with training.”

The pressure is mounting on Amorim, who has now suffered 15 Premier League defeats in just 28 games as United manager—a concerning record that surpasses his loss count during his entire 167-match tenure in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

With the transfer window nearing its end, the club’s decision to forgo a new goalkeeper signals their commitment to Amorim’s vision and the players he has at his disposal.
