Chelsea star takes bizarre social media stance, hints at desire for transfer

Wesley Fofana has seemingly hinted that he is considering his future at Chelsea.

The France international has endured a highly-frustrating three-year stint at Stamford Bridge where injuries have restricted him to just 34 appearances.

Progress was made in 2024-25 when he started the majority of the games during the opening half of the Premier League campaign, only to require hamstring surgery in March and not make a competitive appearance since then.

Head coach Enzo Maresca has recently hinted that the 24-year-old will come back into the team once he is deemed fit enough to start.

Nevertheless, the centre-back's actions on Wednesday morning seem to suggest that he is far from happy at the West Londoners.

What has Fofana done on social media?

Fofana has removed all association with Chelsea from his Instagram account, including from his bio and photos in club colours.

Furthermore, he has gone to the extent of leaving pictures from his former club Leicester City on his account.

As it stands, there is no explanation for the development, but there has been a trend in players doing similar when they see no future at their respective club.

RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons, who is expected to join Chelsea before the September 1 deadline, and Brentford attacker Yoane Wissa have also taken such action.

A major concern for Maresca?

With Levi Colwill having suffered an ACL injury, a greater importance has been placed on Fofana returning to full fitness and remaining available.

Fofana was an unused substitute for last weekend's Premier League opener with Crystal Palace and Maresca has previously suggested that he will be in contention for Friday's game with West Ham United.

That now appears to be in some doubt given the hints that have been provided by the £75m signing.

Taking that price-tag into consideration and Fofana's unreliability when it comes to injuries, no club would consider paying anywhere near that sum.

There are still four years remaining on his Chelsea contract.
