Confessions of a Polluted Mindset - Indypendent Thoughts

The power of Vitamin C - Evidently, Rasheed Walker told Anthony Belton at halftime to eat a clementine and refocus and he'll be fine. And it worked! His second half was worlds better than his first.

The Packers thought they were doing a smart thing limiting Isaiah Simmons to playing a single position but maybe they picked the wrong position? (tongue in cheek polluted thought).

The Law firm of Hicks and Johnson had a really good day against their plaintiff, the Indy defense. The main thing to like about what you saw from Julian Hicks and Cornelius Johnson is that they CATCH THE BALL!!! Both made some difficult catches look easy, the polar opposite of what we've seen some of the front line receivers do. These are two prime practice squad candidates.

Seems back injuries are the new black for the Packers this year. Currently four players are dealing with some back issues: WR Romeo Doubs, Kenny Clark, Lukas Van Ness. and Aaron Banks.

The only Packer player without a blemish so far has to be Daniel Whelan. Versus Indy, 3 punts, all landing inside the 20 yard line with a 49.3 yd per punt average,

I kept seeing #49 on my screen charging through the line and pressuring quarterbacks, even recording a sack - although the Indy line blew a stunt pickup and he went in untouched. Still, he was all over the field, chasing the ball when he wasn't rushing the passer and showing up on special teams as well. I had to go check the Packers roster to see who #49 was - Deslin Alexandre, which I admit to know very little about. The Packers signed the 6'3" 264lbs edge rusher to a futures contract this January after he spent some time with the Jets and Bears last year. In five seasons at Pitt, Alexandre appeared in 58 games, recording 131 tackles (56 solo), 29.5 tackles for a loss, 16.5 sacks, eight passes defensed and two fumble recoveries. Normally, from what I saw on Saturday I'd say he has traits worth developing. However, he's already 27 years old as a first year player. Still, perhaps a practice squad spot will be his.

Eleven penalties in a half is rather impressive, but even more so is five coming from one player! Belton got an earful from LaFleur as the half ended and as previously mentioned, turned things around in the second half. He's a rookie who's head is likely still swimming a bit, which might be one reason why the Packers haven't tried to have him learn the guard position as well.

Jordan Morgan checked in with another fine performance at left tackle - he still hasn't allowed a pressure in two games and I thought this week he did some nice things in the run blocking department as well.

Count me as a member of the Christian Welch fan club. Every team needs a guy like Welch - special teams ace and will work his ass of wherever you put him on the field at a moment's office. He seems to always be around the ball and is not a "watcher."
