Four Steelers players return to practice, including star pass rusher

PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers saw multiple players return to practice on Tuesday during the team’s individual period. Outside linebacker Alex Highsmith was seen going through individual drills for the first time since suffering a groin injury two weeks ago.

While Highsmith and Cam Hayward, who ended his hold-in on Tuesday, were the big news, the Steelers got even healthier across a few other units.

Head coach Mike Tomlin said wide receiver Calvin Austin III and cornerback Donte Kent also returned to practice. Austin has an oblique injury that plagued him for the last three weeks. He suffered the injury during the team’s Friday Night Lights practice.

Kent suffered an apparent ankle or foot injury during that same practice that has forced him to miss the first two preseason games, but Tomlin is keeping the light on for the former Harrisburg High School standout and seventh-round draft pick to play in Charlotte on Thursday.

The Steelers’ first game against the New York Jets in on September 7th, and it does appear the Steelers have any major injuries that will affect availability for that game right now.

If that holds true, the team will have a rather clean bill of health heading into their first game of the season.
