Report: Havertz knee injury forces Arsenal back into the market

Arsenal appear to have picked up where they left off last season, with The Athletic reporting that Kai Havertz is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The severity of the problem isn’t yet clear, but David Ornstein says the club are now actively exploring attacking cover before the transfer window shuts on 1 September. That doesn’t sound especially encouraging, does it?

Having splashed out on Viktor Gyokeres this summer, the Gunners looked well stocked up front, so to lose Havertz just a week into the new campaign is a real blow for Mikel Arteta, especially with Gabriel Jesus still rehabbing from his ACL surgery in January.

It’s Havertz’s second significant setback this year, having undergone hamstring surgery in January. For now, Leandro Trossard, who has reportedly penned new terms, and Mikel Merino are the available options to plug the gap.

Anybody got a spare £150 million for Alexander Isak?
