**Things started to finally come to a head at Newcastle United on Tuesday night after Alexander Isak released an inflammatory statement about his future.**
Alexander Isak opted not to attend the PFA awards in Manchester on Tuesday night despite being nominated for the PFA Players' Player of the Year. Instead, Isak decided to [release a statement via social media](https://nufcfeed.com/alexander-isak-breaks-silence-of-newcastle-united-situation-doesnt-leave-much-room-for-a-comeback-1518984) explaining his decision to remain away from the ceremony.
In the statement, the striker broke his silence on the standoff between himself and Newcastle United, pointing to broken promises as the reason he's gone on strike.
Silly old me, I decided to go to bed after covering that story, only for Newcastle United to release their own statement later that night, taking a very firm stance against the rebellious forward.

Newcastle United fought back immediately
----------------------------------------
Putting it out on the official social media, Newcastle United responded strongly to Alexander Isak's claims, but did still leave the door open for him to return to the club.
> "We are disappointed to have been alerted to a social media post by Alexander Isak this evening."We are clear in response that Alex remains under contract and that no commitment has ever been made by a club official that Alex can leave Newcastle United this summer."We want to keep our best players, but we also understand players have their own wishes and we listen to their views. As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired."We do not foresee those conditions being met.
>
> "This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates."
We still don't see a way back for Alexander Isak
------------------------------------------------
The club have effectively told Isak that no one man is bigger than the club and that nobody ever told him he could leave this summer. Although it's our understanding that the broken promises referred to by Isak were a nod to the promise of a new deal made by Amanda Staveley, which was not acted upon by Paul Mitchell after Staveley's departure from the club.
Newcastle United seem pretty confident that nobody is going to stump up the money required to make them entertain the idea of letting Isak leave, and therefore, he should swallow his pride and get back to work.
It looks like this one is going to go all the way to deadline day, and then both parties will have to come to some sort of agreement after that.
We still don't see a way back for Isak, especially given his lack of acknowledgement of the fans in his statement last night. How can this get messier? I'm sure it will, but I just can't see how right now.
