Big obligation to buy can quickly advance Manchester United exit – London meeting as conditional purchase rises

AC Milan have been pursuing a deal for Manchester United’s Rasmus Højlund, with the Italian media reporting on it almost by the minute.

Initial claims stated Serie A side wanted to sign the striker on loan with an option to buy. The striker was reluctant to leave the Red Devils but is now said to have changed his stance.

Two days ago, Milan sporting director Igli Tare confirmed his side’s interest in the 22-year-old. Later that day, Napoli joined the race to sign the Manchester United player after Romelu Lukaku picked up an injury.

Milan News now report Højlund has realised he has no future at Manchester United. He’s open to changing clubs as long as he doesn’t have to return to Old Trafford next summer.

The Rossoneri have been evaluating a loan with a purchase option for several weeks. To please the Denmark international and to avoid a potential battle with Napoli, Milan are seriously considering a conditional buying obligation to unblock the operation.

There’s no mention of what those conditions are, but they are likely easy to achieve.

Journalist Gianluigi Longari took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report that Milan intermediaries are expected to have a direct contact with Højlund’s father in London, to ‘secure the striker’s approval.’

This is likely to get ahead of Napoli, who, according to Longari, are a strong contender to sign the Dane.

With an agent, several intermediaries and Milan officials involved in this operation, and with the endless talking heads in the Napoli media, there’s going to be endless claims on this saga in the coming days.
