Reports suggest Manchester United are considering a move for Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton.
United plotting move for Crystal Palace midfielder
The summer transfer dealings at Manchester United have already transformed their attacking options. Although, they looked bright in their opening match against Arsenal, they ultimately suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat.
There has been an improvement to the attacking department, however, the midfield required more quality and depth. United’s engine room lacks balance. Manuel Ugarte has yet to fully convince. In the meantime, Kobbie Mainoo is still a player for the future and not the present. The need for a dynamic, technical midfielder is apparent. That is where Adam Wharton comes in.
Wharton emerges as a target
As per talkSPORT, United are seriously weighing up a move for Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton. This comes after cooling their pursuit of Brighton’s Carlos Baleba. He was declared untouchable by his club.
Wharton has been impressing people with his mature performances in the PL. His stock has risen quickly, making him a target for a number of top sides. Although, Palace have made it clear they want to keep him at Selhurst Park. That means if Man Utd do want to tempt the Eagles into selling, they will need to open their wallet.
At only 20-years-old, Wharton has both quality and future potential. Both of which have been lacking in the club’s midfield positions. Ruben Amorim’s style thrives on energy and progression of the ball. So, Wharton appears to be set-up perfectly to meet the demands of that system.
The Red Devils are looking to push closer to the PL table this season. That said, signing such a player could be the last missing piece to their midfield unit.
Author’s Opinion
Wharton would be a smart long-term signing for Man United. At £70m, the price is steep, but his talent could make it worthwhile for Ruben Amorim’s side.
