BREAKING Arsenal suffer massive blow as Kai Havertz to be sidelined with knee injury

Arsenal forward Kai Havertz is set to be sidelined with a knee injury.

The 26-year-old was absent from Arsenal's open training session at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday morning.

And the forward looks set to miss a significant period of time, having only recently recovered from a serious hamstring injury at the end of last season.

Havertz came off the bench for the Gunners in their opening Premier League win against Manchester United on Sunday.

But he was missing from the squad training just days later. According to The Athletic, assessments are at an early stage, meaning a prognosis and duration of any lay-off is currently unclear.

Mikel Arteta signed Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon in a £64million deal in an attempt to solve their striker problems. But the Gunners might have to enter the market again if Havertz's issue leaves him out for a prolonged period.

Arsenal's other striker Gabriel Jesus is also out after an ACL injury picked up at the start of the year, with his return unknown.

Jesus and Havertz were both sidelined for the second half of last season, seeing midfielder Mikel Merino deployed as the main focal point.
