Report: After saying no to Leeds last month, player is set for Nottingham Forest medical in £26m deal

Leeds United will look to try and emulate Nottingham Forest’s success in the Premier League this season, having made a positive start to the 2025/26 campaign.

Nottingham Forest were promoted to the Premier League back in 2022, and last season the Reds finished in 7th place of the Premier League table. It’s an impressive story, and one that Leeds United can try and take inspiration from as they look to avoid relegation back to the Championship.

And Daniel Farke’s side have made a strong start to the campaign. On Monday night, Leeds United beat Everton 1-0 in the Premier League, owing to a late Lukas Nmecha penalty.

But there remains 37 more games, and a lot more tricky ones for the Whites, including a trip to Arsenal on Saturday.

So far this summer, Leeds United have signed nine new players, and ahead of the transfer window closing on September 1st, it looks like Farke will try to make one, potentially two, more signings.

Douglas Luiz set to join Leeds United’s Premier League rivals

Midfield was an area of contention for Leeds United at the start of the summer. Since, Farke has added Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff to his central midfield area and it looks as though he won’t be signing any more. But one player who he wanted to sign and who could have been a very marquee signing for the Whites was Douglas Luiz at Juventus.

The former Aston Villa man and Brazilian international Luiz is set to leave Juventus this summer after a disastrous debut season last time round. But Luiz rejected a move to Leeds United earlier in the summer. Soon after, Luiz faced disciplinary measures after missing Juventus first-team training, but now he’s finally set to get his move.

Tutto Sport have revealed that Nottingham Forest are close to signing the 27-year-old in a deal worth just over £26m and he’ll earn around £4.3m every season on a contract until 2030. Luiz is now due for a medical at the City Ground.

Who is Leeds United’s next signing going to be?

Leeds United have been linked with a few players over the last few days and weeks, but it looks likely that AC Milan’s Noah Okafor is set to be the next one to arrive at Elland Road. Leeds United have fended off interest from Everton and Arsenal to agree a deal to sign Okafor worth around £13m.

Then, on Wednesday, Fabrizio Romano revealed on X that Okafor is on his way to Leeds United to complete his move. The Swiss international is flying into West Yorkshire ahead of a four-year contract plus the option to extend it by a further year.

He’ll become Leeds United’s tenth signing over the summer and he will prove a very exciting attacking addition for Farke, who is certainly in need of more star quality in the final third.

After that, who Leeds United might turn to or what positions they might try to bolster remains to be seen, but we could expect to see one or two more late deals.
