Werder Bremen eye Hein, Porto not giving up on Kiwior

According to various reports, German side Werder Bremen are lining up a move for goalkeeper Karl Hein.

The Estonia international, 23, has been on Arsenal’s books since 2018, but his only senior outing came in a 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton three years ago.

He’s since taken in a short stint at Reading and spent last season in La Liga with Real Valladolid, where he racked up 31 appearances.

Given that regular first-team football, it was always unlikely he’d stick around at the Emirates, especially with David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga ahead of him in the pecking order.

Werder Bremen, Per Mertesacker’s former club, are on the lookout for a new keeper with current number one, Michael Zetterer, joining Eintracht Frankfurt on a free this summer.

Elsewhere, the Mirror says Arsenal remain in talks with Porto over a possible transfer of Jakub Kiwior. The Gunners are thought to have rejected one bid for the Poland international, but the Portuguese side remain keen on a deal and want to sign him on loan with an obligation to buy next summer.

Having spent nearly £200 million on six players this summer, there’s pressure on sporting director Andrea Berta to start selling fringe members of the squad. News of a knee injury for Kai Havertz, and the potential need to add another attacker just adds to that.
