Leeds United receive Premier League boost as Arsenal star suffers injury setback

Arsenal look set to be without one of their top attacking players for Saturday's encounter with Leeds United. Athletic journalist David Ornstein has revealed Kai Havertz is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury.

The Germany international was not part of an open training session at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday morning. Assessments of Havertz's injury are an early stage, according to Ornstein, so it remains unclear how long he will be out of action for.

Havertz featured as a substitute in Arsenal's hard-earned win at Manchester United on Sunday. The 26-year-old replaced big-money signing Viktor Gyokeres after an hour during as the Gunners secured maximum points thanks to Riccardo Calafiori's early strike. Havertz has made 88 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Chelsea in the summer of 2023, hitting 29 goals.

It is a big blow for the Premier League title contenders, with Havertz missing 12 league matches last term between February and May last season due to a hamstring problem. Ornstein claims the Gunners recruitment chiefs are exploring the transfer market to potentially reinforce their attack and cover the absence of Havertz.

Arsenal entertain Leeds on Saturday night, kick-off 5:30pm. The Whites will be looking to build on their fine performance and victory against Everton earlier this week.
