After Altay Bayindir’s mistake against Arsenal at the weekend, Man United supporters have again been urging the club to recruit a new No.1.
Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville claims that Ruben Amorim’s side could finish fourth this season, but only if they purchase a goalkeeper.
Neville says he is “banking” on his former club signing someone ahead of September 1st, so who are the likeliest candidates? Below, we have ranked the five we believe have the best chance of moving to Old Trafford.
5) Gianluigi Donnarumma
While most Man United supporters would love the Italian international to join the Red Devils, the move seems unrealistic for several reasons.
Donnarumma is reportedly demanding a salary in excess of £250,000 a week, and Paris Saint-Germain want between £25m and £35m for the keeper.
When you consider that the 26-year-old has less than a year left on his contract, that is a sizeable fee. It is also felt that any bid would be contingent on Andre Onana leaving due to the costs involved.
Furthermore, Manchester City are said to have already made their move for Donnarumma, with the Etihad seemingly his most likely destination at the moment.
4) Emi Martinez
The Red Devils tried to sign the World Cup winner on loan earlier this summer, with it being claimed that Amorim pushed to make it happen.
Unsurprisingly, Aston Villa rejected the proposal out of hand, and there has been no indication that United will go back in with another offer.
Martinez is valued at around £30m to £40m, and although he is more expensive than Donnarumma, the deal is regarded to be slightly more likely due to the keeper’s interest in the move.
The Argentinian international is believed to be keen on a new challenge and would be open to a switch to Old Trafford.
