Fabrizio Romano drops Man Utd transfer hint on new midfielder after update on ‘extraordinary’…

Fabrizio Romano has shared what he's hearing on Manchester United and Sevilla midfielder Lucien Agoume, amid reports they are interested, writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter.

It's been an interesting summer transfer window for the Red Devils, heavily focusing their recruitment on improving Ruben Amorim's options in the final third. Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, and Matheus Cunha have arrived through the door to bolster their attack, but they are yet to bring in reinforcements in other positions.

After such a disappointing 2024/2025 campaign, which saw United fail to qualify for Europe, finishing in the bottom half of the Premier League, there's no doubt they could do with strengthening elsewhere. Adding a midfielder could be next on the agenda, with GIVEMESPORT correspondent Romano previously confirming that they were interested in signing Carlos Baleba from Brighton.

Fabrizio Romano: Man Utd and Agoume Update

Lucien Agoume Sevilla-1

Writing in his exclusive GIVEMESPORT newsletter, Romano has answered a question on whether Manchester United have a genuine interest in Sevilla midfielder Agoume. The respected reporter suggests that he's not aware of United opening talks for any other midfielders after Baleba yet...

"I'm not aware of Man United opening talks for other midfielders after Baleba... yet. Let's see in the upcoming days."

Reports recently suggested that Manchester United are leading the race to secure Agoume's signature, with the Sevilla midfielder having a £34.5m release clause in his contract. It appears that United are in the market for a new midfielder, but whether it is Agoume they opt to actively pursue remains to be seen.

A deal to sign Baleba from Brighton was always going to be difficult, with the Seagulls demanding a hefty amount of money to allow him to depart. Brighton have done some excellent business over the years in terms of buying players before selling them for a profit, but Baleba is one they are clearly looking to keep for a little longer.

United will now have to explore alternatives, as it's clearly a position they are hoping to strengthen in the summer transfer window. Interestingly, United do have plenty of options in that area of the pitch, with Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte both on the bench when they faced Arsenal at the weekend, with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro starting the game.
