Liverpool told the necessary conditions for a £130m Alexander Isak transfer before Deadline Day

On Tuesday evening, Alexander Isak released a pivotal statement on his current situation at Newcastle United with Liverpool now poised to finally make a second bid.

The Reds had a £110m bid rejected in July but since then, they’ve been waiting patiently for their chance to strike and it would appear to have presented itself.

Isak’s statement has put Newcastle in an even more difficult position.

Alexander Isak: “When promises are broken and trust is lost, the relationships can’t continue. That’s where things are for me right now – and why change is in the best interests of everyone, not just myself.” pic.twitter.com/sI5dDVlfw2

Then, Newcastle United issued their own statement.

In their statement, the Magpies expressed their disappointment at Isak making a public statement and reiterated that he is under contract.

Crucially, they revealed what it will take to let Isak go and it would appear – despite Newcastle journalists denying it all summer – there are conditions under which Isak will be allowed to join Liverpool.

The statement said: “As explained to Alex and his representatives, we must always take into consideration the best interests of Newcastle United, the team and our supporters in all decisions and we have been clear that the conditions of a sale this summer have not transpired. We do not foresee those conditions being met.

“This is a proud football club with proud traditions and we strive to retain our family feel. Alex remains part of our family and will be welcomed back when he is ready to rejoin his teammates.”

Liverpool learn what it will take to sign Alexander Isak this summer

According to a report from Sky Sports‘ Keith Downie, Liverpool must submit a significantly improved offer for Alexander Isak if they are going to persuade Newcastle to release him.

Downie reports: “Yoane Wissa was seen as the Callum Wilson replacement, not the Alexander Isak replacement. If they were able to land Wissa in the next few days – and I am expecting a bid in the next couple of days – and Liverpool came to the table offering £130m, then Newcastle might have a decision to make.

“If they are unable to bring in Wissa, then Isak will not be going anywhere; and that was what the statement was saying last night.

“If they were to find a gem with two weeks of the window to go, and bring in Wissa, and Liverpool came to the table with a significantly higher bid, then I think Isak will be allowed to go.”
