Arsenal suffer injury blow ahead of Liverpool clash

Arsenal have suffered an injury blow ahead of facing Liverpool at Anfield at the end of the month.

The Gunners are widely expected to be the Reds’ biggest challengers for the title this season, alongside Manchester City.

Arteta’s men ground out a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend, with many fans and pundits suggesting that the Red Devils had a better performance despite the scoreline.

But Arsenal will arrive on Merseyside on the 30th of August with one less offensive weapon in their ranks.

Indeed, the Athletic has reported that Kai Havertz has suffered a new knee injury, but the prognosis is not clear yet.

However, it is bad enough for the Gunners to potentially want to sign cover for the former Chelsea man:

“Arsenal forward Kai Havertz is set for a spell on the sidelines with a knee injury,” wrote David Ornstein.

“Assessments are at an early stage so the prognosis and duration of any lay-off is unclear.”

“Arsenal are, however, actively exploring the transfer market to potentially reinforce their attack and cover the absence of Havertz.”

The German international has endured a frustrating few months having been injured with a hamstring tear for the title run-in last season.

Meanwhile, speaking at the PFA awards last night, Salah surprisingly claimed that Arsenal are this year’s title favourites:

“I think Arsenal have a great team this season as you did last season. So, you have really good chance. I think you are the favourite now because you players who have been together for five years.”

“I can’t say I’ll wish you luck – hopefully we do it again,” said the Egyptian.

Arsenal also has the likes of Gabriel Jesus and new signing Christian Nørgaard injured, with the latter missing the 1-0 win over Manchester United after picking up “a little issue” in training.
