Rumour Mongering: Liverpool Forward Targeted by Wrexham and Birmingham

Following a highly successful 2024-25 season spent on loan with Championship side Stoke City that saw forward Lewis Koumas score six goals in 49 total appearances, the 19-year-old Liverpool player could soon be set to head back to the championship but on a permanent deal.

The youngster had been around the fringes of the Liverpool first team for a couple of seasons heading into last year, training with the first team and making an FA Cup debut in spring of 2024 along with recording a handful of bench appearances. It was his Stoke loan, though, that really caught the eye.

It certainly did for other Championship clubs, as following the end of the season, Koumas has been linked with numerous second-tier sides including Sheffield, Norwich, Preston, and Hull City. According to The Echo, though, it’s Wrexham and Birmingham City who are likeliest to sign him.

In addition to his Championship breakout last season, the teenager already has six senior Wales appearances to his name. However, with young Rio Ngumoha ahead of on the depth chart for Liverpool, there’s little chance of a meaningful first team role if he stays with the Reds.

Another loan season might not seem as if it would go awry given Koumas’ clear talent, but it does appear that the preference is for a permanent transfer, and celebrity-owned Wrexham and Birmingham would certainly offer him both a path to playing time and potentially some upward mobility.
