Nottingham Forest have failed with a move to sign Manchester City defender Rico Lewis, who is set to sign a new five-year deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Forest have enjoyed an impressive summer transfer window so far, moving fast to replace Anthony Elanga, who joined Newcastle United a few weeks ago. The Midlands club have ensured they have plenty of cover and competition in the final third, with James McAtee, Dan Ndoye, and Omari Hutchinson all arriving recently.
Jair Cunha, Igor Jesus, Arnaud Kalimuendo, and Angus Gunn are among other additions that have signed on the dotted line, while they are also pushing to secure the signature of Douglas Luiz from Juventus. GIVEMESPORT correspondent Romano has confirmed that Forest have agreed a deal to sign Luiz from the Italian club.
Nottingham Forest 'Deal Off' for Rico Lewis
Manchester City full-back Rico Lewis in action
Reporting on X, Romano has confirmed that Lewis is set to sign a new five-year deal at Manchester City, meaning his move to Forest is off. Nuno Espirito Santo's side made a £25m bid last week, which City rejected, and Lewis is now to commit his future to the Manchester club...
"Rico Lewis has agreed to sign new deal at Manchester City valid until June 2030. The agreement is done, as @Jack_Gaughan reports. Deal off with Nottingham Forest after City rejected £25m bid last week."
With a deal for Lewis looking unlikely, Romano has also reported that Forest are in advanced talks to sign Sevilla right-back Jose Angel Carmona. The Tricky Trees certainly aren't messing around in the summer transfer window, and it's no surprise considering they have European football to contend with this season.
Forest will regularly be playing on Thursdays and Sundays during the 2025/2026 campaign, so having a deep squad is imperative to deal with the hectic fixture schedule and compete on all fronts. Forest are certainly looking to build a squad capable of doing just that, but the reality is some players will have to leave the club.
Elanga, Danilo, Ramon Sosa, Andrew Omobamidele, Matt Turner, Carlos Miguel, and Lewis O'Brien are among those to have departed, but it wouldn't be a surprise to see more players head through the exit door in the coming days, with the summer transfer window closing in just under two weeks.
