Quay Walker, Edgerrin Cooper, and Isaiah McDuffie are the Top 3 linebackers for the Green Bay Packers in the 2025 season but after the pre-season games, these guys should feel a little bit uneasy with the emergence of a second year LB.
Ty’Ron Hopper said in May that he is a capable linebacker and observers are taking notice.

“[But] I feel like I can do everything to be honest,” Hopper said as quoted by Tyler Dunne of Go Long TD.
“I feel like I can cover. Man. Zone. Shit, whatever it is.”
He played all 17 games last season as a back up and made a total of nine tackles, five of them solo. His status compared to other linebackers is not expected to change that much but the team are keeping their options open after his pre-season showing.
Head coach Matt LaFleur thought he is making a leap day by day.
Ty'Ron Hopper
Green Bay Packers linebacker Ty’Ron Hopper (59) prepares to run through a drill during the second day of training camp on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at Ray Nitschke Field in Ashwaubenon, Wis.
“Hop’s done a really nice job,” LaFleur told reporters on Tuesday.
“He’s shown a ton of improvement really in every facet of his game, on defense, on we-fense (what the Packers call special teams). Certainly, we always knew he was going to be a physical presence, you could see that going back to his college tape. He’s got a better understanding of what is required of him for that position, he’s got a great understanding of our defense and he’s gone out there and put together a lot of solid performances.”
Green Bay Packers’ summer hire might have failed
One teammate Hopper can possibly bump off is Isaiah Simmons who came to the team this summer.
Expectations are high for the 2020 eighth overall pick but his pre-season showing is not that ideal.
“For all the athletic gifts Simmons possesses and the potential he’s shown on the practice field, he’s struggled in the preseason games,” Sports Illustrated’s Jacob Westendorf wrote over the weekend after the team’s pre-season win against the Indianapolis Colits.

Westendorf then suggested that it will not be far-fetched if Hopper gets a playing time instead of him.
“If the Packers had to play a regular-season game tomorrow, there’s a good chance they would play Ty’Ron Hopper rather than Simmons.”
