Ipswich Town make Bournemouth midfielder enquiry, German duo also keen

Ipswich Town have enquired about a deal for Bournemouth midfielder Philip Billing but two unnamed German clubs are also keen, as per TEAMtalk.

Ipswich Town are looking to further strengthen their ranks before the end of the summer transfer window with several players shortlisted. ITFC boast a strong squad after dropping down from the Premier League, but there are some key areas in need of further reinforcement.

One area that has been left somewhat bare is midfield. Kieran McKenna has seen Azor Matusiwa sign while Jens Cajuste is back too, but further depth is a must if the Tractor Boys are to avoid the risk of being left bare at times in a long and demanding Championship season.

Reports recently named Bournemouth’s Philip Billing as one potential target on the Ipswich Town radar, and TEAMtalk has now said that the Championship side have made an enquiry over the possibility of bringing the Danish powerhouse to Portman Road.

Bournemouth are ready to sanction an exit with Billing down the pecking order, but ITFC aren’t the only ones keen. It is added that two German clubs – who are currently unnamed – are interested in a deal for the 29-year-old as well.

It seems most likely that Billing would move on loan.

Philip Billing: A statement signing at Championship level

After starting his youth career in his native Denmark, Billing moved to UK shores with Huddersfield Town in 2013. He broke into senior football there and became a standout with the Terriers before a move to Bournemouth in 2019.

Across spells with both clubs, Billing has proven himself as a player above Championship level. He was a success in the Premier League too, but most of his joy has been in the Championship.

It’s a testament to the Ipswich Town target’s abilities that Napoli moved to sign him on loan in January, bringing him in as a new midfield option as they went to go on and win Serie A. Nonetheless, now back at Bournemouth and down the pecking order, a move away will benefit Billing and he will be a big asset for ITFC in the middle of the park if they can get a deal done.

Ipswich Town transfer news will only ramp up amid recent moves

Liam Delap left Ipswich Town for £30m earlier in the summer transfer window and now, Omari Hutchinson has made a big money move away from the club. Nottingham Forest have snapped him up amid significant interest from other sides such as Brentford.

Such sales mean McKenna and co now have big money to spend on strengthening their squad before the end of the transfer window on September 1st. A big chunk of that could go on a new midfielder, but a loan deal for someone like Philip Billing would free up funds to be spent elsewhere too.

It is setting up to be a busy end to the summer transfer window for ITFC, but time will tell if the sought-after Billing is among those to check in at Portman Road.
