Six of Morgan’s best 2024/25 Premier League moments

Morgan Rogers was crowned 2024/25 PFA Young Player of the Year on Tuesday evening, after a campaign which saw him deliver a number of important contributions for Aston Villa.

The 23-year-old notched eight Premier League goals and 10 assists in 37 outings in claret and blue throughout the campaign, with many eye-catching events throughout.

And the England international was voted for by his fellow professionals to win the prestigious award at the annual PFA ceremony in Manchester.

Here, we take a look at six of Morgan’s finest Premier League moments from throughout the 2024/25 season…

First two assists inspire Wolves comeback

Morgan Rogers Wolves

Heading into Gameweek 5 of the Premier League campaign towards the end of September, Rogers was still to have contributed to a goal for the Villans in all competitions.

Aiming for a third-straight win after triumphing over Leicester City and Everton, Villa looked to be heading to a second home defeat of the season after Matheus Cunha’s first-half strike had put Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead at Villa Park.

But the game turned in the 73rd minute when the hosts finally hauled themselves level, Rogers picking the perfect time to register his first assist of the season, teeing up Ollie Watkins who made no mistake with the finish.

And, after Ezri Konsa had edged the Villans ahead with two minutes of normal time remaining, Rogers helped make sure of the points in the fourth minute of added time, squaring for Jhon Durán who tapped into the empty net.

Rogers was off and running so far as assists were concerned, helping complete a comeback over Villa’s local rivals on home soil, and things would go on to get a lot better.

Off the mark at Portman Road

Morgan Rogers Ipswich

Just a week later, having bagged his first two assists against Wolves, Rogers had his first goal of the season, in a 2-2 draw at Ipswich Town.

Having fallen behind to Liam Delap’s early goal, Villa seeked a response, and 15 minutes were on the clock when they drew level.

Rogers neatly exchanged passes with Watkins inside the area and fired into the bottom corner, wrongfooting Arijanet Muric to get his side on the board.

The first of eight Premier League goals had been notched and the midfielder had three goal contributions in his last two outings.

Screamer against Brentford

Morgan Rogers Brentford

The first of two Villa Goal of the Month nominations in December 2024, one of his best of the Premier League season came in a midweek clash with Brentford under the lights in B6.

Villa had gone eight games without a win in all competitions, but you wouldn’t have guessed it by the way they started.

Watkins fed Rogers on the edge of the area 21 minutes in, and the midfielder did the rest, taking a touch and curling a sumptuous effort into the top corner to put Unai Emery’s men into the lead.

They needed just 13 minutes more to establish a three-goal lead ahead of the break thanks to a Watkins penalty and Matty Cash’s first goal of the campaign, as they returned to winning ways in style with a 3-1 triumph.

Christmas cracker against the Champions

Morgan Rogers Man City

Villa welcomed reigning Premier League Champions Manchester City to the midlands just four days before Christmas, and Rogers was imperious, with a goal and assist earning him Player of the Match.

Sixteen minutes had elapsed when he unselfishly teed up Durán to put Villa ahead – a goal akin to the one in which he provided for the Colombian at home to Wolves earlier in the campaign.

Then, just after the hour mark, the England international was at his best, carrying the ball brilliantly from his own half into opposition territory, driving at defenders and evading attempts to stop him.

After a quick exchange of passes with John McGinn, Rogers arrowed an effort into the bottom corner in front of the Holte End, giving Stefan Ortega in goal no chance and all but sealing a big three points on home soil to spread festive cheer at Villa Park.

Fine finish against Forest

Morgan Rogers Forest

March 2025 saw Villa begin a superb run of form which saw them drop just six points in their final 10 Premier League games of the campaign, on their way to a sixth-placed finish.

Having won their last two, the beginning of April saw them welcome Nottingham Forest to Villa Park, needing just 15 minutes to effectively seal the points.

Rogers put them ahead with 13 minutes on the clock. He took a trademark, inch-perfect ball over the top from Youri Tielemans in his stride, controlling effortlessly with the outside of his right boot, before firing into the bottom corner with his left foot to open the scoring.

Donyell Malen would turn home Ian Maatsen’s cross two minutes later to put the Villans in dreamland and help secure a vital victory in the race for European football.

Assisting Ollie’s record breaker

Morgan Rogers Bournemouth

And having got back on the winning trail at the start of May after slipping to a late, heartbreaking defeat at Manchester City, Villa headed to the south coast to take on Bournemouth, knowing a win could secure their spot in Europe for 2025/26.

Play was deep into the sixth minute of first-half stoppage time when Rogers swung a ball into the centre for Watkins to glance an effort home, peeling away in celebration in front of the travelling faithful.

It was a seminal moment for the those of a claret and blue persuasion, as the goal Rogers had assisted was the one which took his team-mate clear of Gabby Agbonlahor’s record, making him Villa’s all-time leading Premier League goalscorer with 75.

And, to cap off a fine afternoon, a 1-0 win meant Villa’s place in Europe for the following campaign was secure, and more memories could be made for Rogers and his team-mates.
