What Paul Winstanley and the rest of Chelsea's directors think about Alejandro Garnacho - journalist

Alejandro Garnacho is still currently a Manchester United player despite strong rumours linking him with a move to Chelsea this summer.

The speculation has been around Alejandro Garnacho, 21, leaving Man Utd to join Chelsea, but it’s still not happened with less than two weeks remaining in the transfer window.

The encouraging news is that Garnacho has agreed personal terms with Chelsea because he’s pushing to secure a move to Stamford Bridge. However, Chelsea want to pay £30m for Garnacho, who is rated at £50m by Man Utd.

Fans will have to wait and see if the Blues can negotiate a deal before the deadline.

Interestingly, Garnacho has told his friends he expects to join Chelsea in this window. If he does, it will be an enormous step because he’s spent his entire senior club career at Old Trafford.

All of Chelsea’s directors want Alejandro Garnacho signed

Journalist Simon Phillips reported via Substack on Wednesday that Garnacho has been on Chelsea’s radar for nearly eight years, and their scouts have compiled plenty of data on him during that time.

It is explained that the Blues scouts passed on their information about the 21-year-old winger when the new directors came in at Stamford Bridge. Apparently, Garnacho’s data is admired by Chelsea’s sporting directors, who are all keen on signing him, even though it is Paul Winstanley who’s been pushed hardest for the deal.

The fact that Chelsea’s entire hierarchy are on the same page and are behind the Garnacho move is encouraging, even if some supporters are sceptical.

Winstanley and Laurence Stewart are the Blues co-sporting directors, while Joe Shields and Sam Jewell are also part of the recruitment model at the club. Incidentally, Chelsea’s key decisions must be signed off by the senior trio of Todd Boehly, Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano from the ownership group.

Jamie Gittens may need some help on the left wing

Now we’ve seen a glimpse of Jamie Gittens in a Chelsea shirt, including on his Premier League debut last weekend, we’d argue it make sense to sign competition for him in the wide area.

At the moment, Gittens looks like an incredibly talented footballer with so much potential. In particular, the 21-year-old left-winger has the kind of pace and directness that will mean he adds a lot to Enzo Maresca’s squad this campaign.

However, it’s obvious the youngster is raw and a work in progress, so adding another left-winger for him to rotate with feels like a no-brainer.

Even though Garnacho does divide opinion, he’s clearly a young talent who’s proven he can make the difference in the Premier League.
