£82m striker's agents"believes he may have made a mistake"- could be the perfect Liverpool Plan B for Isak

Liverpool were linked with Julian Alvarez earlier in the summer but were told that there is no chance of him leaving Atletico Madrid.

Now, that stance could be tested amid Liverpool’s staring contest with Newcastle United. The Magpies were forced to blink on Tuesday when Alexander Isak issued a public statement on his Instagram, declaring promises had been broken and trust shattered.

Liverpool fans are waiting with bated breath to see if Newcastle will cave and allow Isak to move to Anfield this summer.

Should the worst case scenario be realised, Liverpool need to have a top class alternative to Isak ready and Alvarez is the perfect candidate.

Julian Alvarez fears he may have made a big mistake joining Atletico Madrid

According to a claim from Matias Palacios at Chiringuito, a major story is breaking around Julian Alvarez.

He says: “The entourage ofJulian Alvarez believes he may have made a mistake by signing with Atletico Madrid. Sources suggestAlvarez is frustrated with his current role under coach Diego Simeone”

Alvarez is very different stylistically to Isak but would still suit Liverpool’s style of play

Last season, Alexander Isak was one of the best forwards in the Premier League and is ready to go to the next level. That he can only do if he’s challenging for top honours which doesn’t seem realistic at Newcastle United.

Liverpool, however, are not the ones in control of making this transfer happen and are playing the waiting game.

Should this prove likely to fail, turning to Alvarez would be a smart move.

He was signed for £82m just a year ago so it would be a very difficult and expensive operation to carry out.

However, for a player that is as technically proficient as Alvarez, it might be worth it. The Argentine scored 29 goals and assisted 8 last season for Atleti.
